See attached picture.
Card: ATI Radeon 9600 (Powercolor)
Driver: Catalyst 6.5
Result: Works / Funktioniert
I don't remember which resolutions needed tweaking though. I think I used 321x2xx instead of 320x2xx. No big deal though.

Driver: ForceWare 182.06
Result: Works with Dongle / Funktioniert mit Dongle
Newest drivers don't work, tested with dongle and without dongle. Forceware 182.06 works with dongle.
Forgot to take a picture of the vga, attached image is the same vga card i own.9600gso.jpg

Card: NVidia GeForce GT430 (Palit) Driver: 296.10 WHQL
Result: Does not work / Funktioniert nicht
Notes: Testet on Windows 7 64-bit. Soft15kHz functions are grayed out. EDID-Dongle did NOT resolve the issue. After installing a HD4650 (thanks SailorSat) everything works fine under Win7 x64 (without EDID-dongle).
Card : ATI Radeon HD 4350 works without dongle with Catalyst 12.3.
Both Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT and GT 440 doesn't work, even with dongle.
I have two questions : both 9800 GT and GT 440 shows "duplicate" images, meaning that they doesn't support 15 Khz. I've tested them with Nvidia 182.06 drivers, which apparently support 15Kzh settings. Can someone confirm that these drivers are really OK for 15Khz ? And if not, which version is "good" ?
I also bought and tested a MSI HD 4650 with 1Gb DDR3 under Catalyst 10.3 and 12.3, but it failed, with or without dongle. It surprised me, because page 5 of this thread a similar HD 4650 was succesfully tested. Can someone confirm that some HD4650 models are "different" from others and though don't support 15Khz ? Or is it a Catalyst issue, which means I should try another drivers version ?
Thanks for all, and of course thanks SailorSat for this wonderful tool !!

Hi James West!
I heared here on the board that NVidia cards generally cause problems with soft15kHz. Just skip them altogether. I had a GT440 from PAlit and NOTHING - nor driver, nor Powerstrip, nor dongle - got it to work. SailorSat recommended the HD4650 and it worked with Catalyst 10.3 like a charm! Its powerful enough for Street Fighter 4 (which on a TV looks good enough) and handles MAME perfectly!
I don't think your driver is the problem...maybe your TV doesn't work with the card....?!? And yes, there are different versions of the HD4650. At least, when I bought the card on eBay, they sold version with DVI, VGA, TV-out and possibly HDMI in different combinations. Try asking in another thread with giving your specific setup.
I hope that helped,
regards madef
Thanks a lot madef ! And for my HD4650, I'll open a new thread right now. Thanks again !
Hi madef,
Could you please tell me your system configuration as i have bought palit gt440 2gb card a few days ago for my arcade and i want to know that what driver version you have and are you using windows 7 or xp as i have installed win 7 64bit on my q6600 with 4 gb ram and 500 gb hard on Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L mobo, I am really confused now that will it work......
I bought sega Naomi Universal cab with 31khz arcade monitor in it not the tri sync one.
thanks

thanks for the reply madef and as you suggested i bought gigabyte hd 4650 as mentioned by Sailorsat, I haven't received it yet buy will get it soon. One question i need to know that the arcade monitor i got is just 31khz nannao with toshiba tube,so do i need to install only 31khz with soft15khz or i can install the lower resolutions as well. i need the high end card so i can play the latest games like SFiv and demul and supermodel3 emulators.
thanks
Hi!
The videocard you got ist just fine. I player Super SFIV Arcade Edition (it is the better version since you can freely configure the controls as opposed to the "normal" SFIV) with this card and it works great. As far as soft15kHz goes, I think there is misunderstanding...by hitting the 15kHz, 25kHz or 31 kHz button you just install more different resolutions that enable an 15kHz, 25kHz or 31 kHz output. Normally your videocard is limited to just a few reolutions that are all 31 kHz. Now, if you want a different resolution that is 15 kHz (this is mandatory for CRT-TVs and Arcade monitors AND it looks better for old games!), you need to add the new resolutions and enable them. The "original" drivers from your video card don't give you these....soft15kHz expands the driver to these new resolutions. That's the trick. So, if your monitor only "digests" 31kHz you probably won't need soft 15kHz. Anyway, by hitting the 31kHz button in the software there may be added new 31kHz resolutions that suit you better than the "original" ones. Just try it. Problem is, I don't know your monitor. Please ask someone, who is an expert for monitors. I use a Sony KV-29Xd5 TC-screen as monitor in my cab.
A tip aside: Use Catalyst 10.3 as driver for your HD4650. It worked great for me! After installing soft15kHz, I played SFIV very nicely on my TV using soft 15kHz. The reolution I used for SF: 640x480 interlaced. For Mame I used 320x240. SFIV also worked under 320x240. The best thing with the HD4650 is that I have installed 2 monitors: One for Windows 7 (to configure the system and stuff) which I run in a high resolution and as a second one the TV-set, which I use for gaming.
Thanks madef, I really appreciate your quick response in this matter and sorry for bothering you too much as i am really new in it and Sega naomi universal is my first cabinet and i dont want to screw that on an early stage , so from your answer that if my monitor is only 31khz than i dont need to install 31khz from the soft15khz and can use the native 640x480 resolution. but if i need to use mame than i need to add lower resolutions with works well with those earliers games i love the most . i think my monitor is Nanao MS-2932-S only digest 31khz if i install lower resolution is there any harm to my monitor or not, i know you dont have much experience as stated but i dont know much people around
thanks

2) Also, do you prefer AMD or nVIDIA? (success rate) - should I get nVIDIA or AMD ? (I hear that AMD is more compatible.)
3) What about drivers? Do new drivers (for AMD or nVIDIA) would work, or do I need to look for older ForceWare (if I get a nVidia) or AMD drivers?
Thanks!
Many thanks in advance!
